SALTX’S PLASMA TECHNOLOGY PAVES THE WAY FOR NEAR-ZERO CEMENT

SaltX Technology is transforming the way cement is made by replacing fossil fuels with renewable electricity. Their unique plasma-based process makes it possible to produce cement with near-zero emissions. In partnership with Holcim, SaltX is now working to build the world’s first fully electric cement plant — a major step toward decarbonizing the industry.

The challenge

The main challenge SaltX addresses is the decarbonization of industrial processes — particularly those with high emissions caused by fossil-fueled heat.

The solution

SaltX Technology has developed an electric plasma-based process that uses renewable electricity to produce clinker, while also concentrating carbon emissions to enable more efficient carbon capture. This enables the production of all-electric cement with near-zero emissions.

Through its investment, Holcim is supporting SaltX in scaling this breakthrough solution — with the aim of building the world’s first all-electric cement plant. This strategic partnership is part of Holcim’s broader effort to decarbonize building materials.
